OUR HISTORY

The initial idea is to breathe new life into the cultural and artistic heritage generated by the ceramic industry of Laveno (VA) over the course of 150 years of production history.

Since 1856, Laveno has been the epicenter of a highly important ceramics district, recognized worldwide for the high quality of its products and the artistic value of its decorations.
Designers of the caliber of Giò Ponti, Guido Andlowitz, and Antonia Campi have collaborated and directed the creative sector of Laveno ceramics over time.

Globalization has gradually wiped out industrial settlements. The legacy of this centuries-old tradition is now preserved at the International Museum of Ceramic Design (MIDeC) in Cerro di Laveno, which keeps it current through exhibitions, competitions, and educational workshops.

The richness of Italy's artistic heritage is enormous.
Much of it is found in museums or buried in archives and libraries. The ability to rediscover and reinvent it can lead to the creation of contemporary and innovative objects.
That is, products capable of transmitting ancient beauty in contemporary forms.

Thanks to this process, the product takes on a profound intangible richness that distinguishes it from the mass of its competitors.

An object conceived in this way transcends fashion and banality to speak to the soul of those who use it.

Once upon a time, ceramics were decorated by hand, one by one.
The Head Decorator created the design and then the decorators reproduced it on each individual piece following his instructions.

Federico Paglia, who headed this department, collected in a single notebook all the decorations he produced from 1916 to 1932. These include approximately 2,000 designs, from the simplest to the most complex.
This work, which has taken the name of “Paglia Catalogue”, represents one of the most precious legacies preserved at the International Museum of Ceramic Design.

Labiena® draws on this heritage to create its collections.
It is not a pure and simple re-proposition of the design but an elaborate process of decomposition, reconstruction and restyling that makes the decoration suited to contemporary taste.

The Icon line reproduces in its entirety a large ceramic panel used as an advertising poster for the Turin International Exhibition of 1898.
In the background, you can see the main factory located on the shore of Lake Maggiore and one of the most commercially successful vessels of the time.

Labiena® has also chosen this image as a symbol of its work to reconstruct and enhance the artistic legacy of Laveno ceramics.

Icon is suitable for a woman with a strong personality, who doesn't like to go unnoticed and wants to experience a timeless elegance that roots its charm in a beauty with classic and absolute canons.
